Hi Davy, What do you mean by what size covering.
If you are referring to weight and I assume you are going to use plastic film then its weight is determined by the make of film you use weather it be solar film, solatex, coverall, or whatever. The small amount you are going to use and it thickness to weight ratio on your small repair of wing will not make any difference to weight loading.
If you are referring to how much you should overlap the edge of your repair then depending on film being used 6 to 10 mm is ample overlap.
Stick down edges first pulling as tight as possible from one side to other but LEAVE a SMALL part in a corner or edge unstuck for air to escape when shrinking rest of film. Do not touch inner of film to sheeting.
Once edge is firmly stuck all round, Use a hair dryer or hot air gun on low heat and blow over surface to shrink film tight. Use a pin to prick a couple of hole where any air bubbles form.
While still applying heat use a soft rag such as old sheet to smooth and stick film to balsa sheet working from one edge to opposite edge and pricking any air bubble as formed.
If you have shrunk the film with hot gun at first before sticking film to balsa then you should not end up with air bubbles but a clean smooth surface instead.
Cover bottom of wing first then top overlapping 5 to 6 mm at leading and trailing edges.
