Had to get guy in to get it down :-(, so now need a new half wing and some repairs to fire wall, wheels and thin base. $90 to get it down !!! I thought was pretty good. Expensive day.

| JR 2.4 GHZ DSM2 ?
Bugger about landing your plane in the big redwood,I put my trainer into the harbour for a wash on my first flight,l was ready to go swimming for it,but I was very lucky, some people passing by in a small boat, saw it smoking away and plucked it out if the tide for me,Toasted battery,RX and ESC,what a day. Sounds like all the damage can be repaired.

| BUGGER,did not know it was a foam core wing, 1,get some new cores cut from foam 2,make a whole new wing from balsa, carbon and ply 3,try and get a replacement wing 4,try and remove wood veneer from foam core, fit another spare beside broken spar, glue together and glue on new veneer. 5, fit extra spar and glue back together.
Man it sucks they did not run spar full length of the wing

| Yea, nor did I lol. Still learning all the different foams etc. I think its EPS? I wonder if I could cut out a glue a new piece of foam (ie a 300x200mm piece) shape and splice the woodwork to existing? I think a new wing is about $260 nodd bucks so not worth it. Or wait for the odd chance something crops up on TM !!! Would the full lenght spar of made it alot stronger? | |

| Yes a full length spar would have made it stronger,it broke where the spar finished, Yeah it EPS foam, your plan could be the way to go,if you wanted to spend the time making x2 templates of the airfoil shape and hot wire cut some from the foam you can get at bunnings, mega mitre 10. | |

| Could I glue a patch in there as apposed to a full half wing? What glue for EPS could I use and whats a best set up for a hot wire? Cheers for your help too | |

| No worries, always keen to help out a fellow model flyer, I would square up the end of wing half, cut away all the broken bits, get some dowl and bore some holes in foam, use x3 bits, use the dowls to locate the new piece of foam, glue it with gorilla grip glue, cut veneer back about 100mm or so,then new veneer will over lap the joint. When using gorilla if you spray it with water it will foam up and soak into the pores of the foam. Hot wire cutting, you could just sand or maybe use a plane to shape the foam as it will only be a short section that you need. If you want to do the hot wire thing, you need some stainless steel mig wire, power source 12volt,a wooden bow to hold wire tight,If you google it the is heaps of info online. | |

| Cheers Glenn, now the Gorilla glue is the one like a pva bottle but looks like an epoxy (real sticky crap when you get on fingers). Have used that one at work. And yes it does expand a bit. | |

| lol maybe, just glued poly in then will shape it up. Just got to sort out some covering now :-) Only need 300mm of red and about 600mm of white!! Does anyone do part rolls that you may know of ? or will have to just do all in white or something, just to protect balsa. I think an 1800mmm roll is about $25 from Sj's. I met Leigh today Glenn good bloke. Fuel cheap too will be going to him from now on. I still havnt heard back from Mike craig that I emailed regarding club fees, so I guess i'll just sort out next time i'm at the club Cheers | |

| Hey davy,I can lend you a covering iron,a clothes iron does work, but can be abit big for some jobs, and cover it with a tea towel or rag. Not sure about part rolls,I have not seen any,I do not have any red or white covering left from old projects, Leigh has the cheapest covering that I have seen around town. | |

| Cheers Glenn, I'll dig out the old iron since im not doing too much covering (thanks for the offer though ) Yea I might have to just do it all in one colour and keep left over for next plane, or future repairs !!! Just went to Classic Car meeting in Tauranga with the Father In Law and they had one of the club members talking about RC planes etc. Was good night. Good little promo for the club. Man that gorrila glue dries quick!! Good stuff. | |
